Celebrations took place in Birmingham to mark Queen Elizabeth II as the longest reigning monarch in British history.The Queen passed the record set by Queen Victoria’s reign of 63 years and 216 days on 9th September 2015. There were no celebrations or events attended by the Queen to mark the occasion. She treated the day as any other business day, out of respect for her great – great grandmother. However, celebrations took place around the country. Birmingham was also in a great celebratory mood.An event was held at Aston University, Birmingham. An event was organised by Birmingham Commonwealth Association & Birmingham City Council.  Lord Mayor of Birmingham Raymond Hassall was amongst the VIP guests alongside Mr Paul Sabapathy CBE. The colourful event reflected the multicultural Birmingham with attendees from various backgrounds.
