Birmingham’s local photographer Saadia Kiyani hosted a party to honour participants from the “Legends of Balsall Heath” community project in which photos were displayed. This project was funded by the University of Birmingham and was supported by St Pauls Community Development Trust. The project involved photographing local people who fit the legendary criteria. People who have lived and worked in Balsall Heath for over 20 years were sought out. This is an on going project and the “legends” photographs will be used as part of a bus campaign to inspire people on the number 50 bus route. This is known as the busiest bus route in Europe.The intention behind the project is to highlight local activists and community workers who have bettered the lives of local people.The honoured legends of Balsall Heath included Saleem Waheed Proprietor of Saleem’s Restaurant , Abdul Hamid Caring for others, Angela Peak Proprietor of Jennies Hair Salon , Haqi Ali Actor Comedian Film Maker , Michael G.W Henry Musician and Producer , Keith Tatton former head teacher of Clifton junior street ,Jafar Raza Community Activist , Edna Shaw A Determined Resident , Ron Ford our supporter , Raja Mohammed Ishtiaq Proprietor of Raja Brothers Super Market , Gladys Ford A Committed Residents , and Rukhsar Fatima Ali the Dinner Supervisor at Clifton Primary School.
