Fourth Annual Fatima-Shah Muhammad Memorial Hockey Tournament

Farooqabad: Paradise Hockey Club and Ghona Hockey Team were declared joint winners of the Fourth Annual Fatima-Shah Muhammad Memorial Hockey Tournament, organized by Paradise Hockey Club, Promark and Rotary Club of Lahore Garrison at village Chak 73/RB Karianwala, Faisalabad. The tournament was organized to create polio awareness with slogans to “Make Pakistan Polio Free / End Polio Now.” Twenty seven teams participated in the tournament. Ghona, being the guest team, received the Champions trophy and Rs. 20,000 cash while Paradise Hockey team received the Runners-Up trophy and Rs. 15,000 cash.  Rizwan Ali from Paradise Hockey Club was declared Man of the Tournament. Polio Awareness material was presented to the participating teams. Polio t-shirts and caps were presented to guests in the final match. Lt Gen Ch Sardar Ali and Col Nawab Ali were the chief guests at the Final match.  Rotary’s National PolioPlus Committee member Mubasher Butt and Rotarian Iqbal Malik (Bali) participated in the event along with a large number of village elders and notables. Patron-in-Chief Paradise Hockey Club & Past District Governor Shehzad Ahmed and Paradise Coordinator Mukhtar Ahmed organized the tournament. A Polio Awareness Walk was also organized. Children actively participated in the Walk. They were informed about the importance of polio eradication. They were informed that all children less than five years of age should be administered polio drops at each National Immunization Day (NID) campaign. At the end, Polio badges, bands, pencils with polio message and biscuits were distributed among the children. Promark, Rotary’s National PolioPlus Committee, Interloop, Tameer Bank and IGI Insurance sponsored the five day event.
